Sandals Survey Reveals One In Three Women Would Propose To Boyfriends

Once every four years, women get the chance to get down on one knee and pop the question to their loved ones on Leap Day.

According to a recent survey carried out by Sandals Resorts, one in three women would consider proposing to their boyfriends on Leap Day, 29th February, and for a third of couples, the Caribbean would be the favourite choice for romantic destination weddings.

The survey revealed that 20 per cent of the women asked said they would be scared in case the proposal was rejected but it appears that 40 per cent of men would accept and two thirds of them would not be embarrassed.

It appears that the majority of women who would propose come from the East Midlands while women in Wales are the least likely to take the plunge. Ladies living in the North East might find they have more luck because half of the survey participants from the region say they would like their girlfriends to ask them to marry them.

The results of the survey have been revealed just as recent research shows that more couples in the UK are getting married and weddings abroad are on the increase.

Geoffrey Beattie, a Professor of Psychology and Relationship Expert, commented: This new research by Sandals Resorts shows that the Leap Year tradition of women taking the initiative in proposals of marriage is now chiming with the underlying attitudes of people in the UK today.

More and more women (and men) seem happy with the idea that it is perfectly acceptable for women to pop the question. This seems to reflect a more egalitarian society in terms of relationships and dating, with women no longer prepared to play second fiddle, and taking the initiative whenever it is necessary. Given that marriage is a key milestone in many people’s lives it is refreshing to see that things are changing.

A third of the respondents said that they would choose Caribbean weddings and honeymoons for their special occasion which is good news for Sandals Resorts.

Sandals Resorts owns and operates several luxury hotels and resorts across the Caribbean that offer the perfect venues for romantic destination weddings and relaxing honeymoons.

With properties in St Lucia, the Bahamas, Antigua, and Jamaica, engaged couples can choose beach weddings or elegant tropical ceremonies within lush fragrant tropical gardens.

Couples getting married abroad at any of Sandals’ resorts can take advantage of the complimentary Beautiful Beginnings WeddingMoon package at Sandals Resorts if they book a holidays for a minimum of six nights. Wedding packages are also available and can be tailor-made to suit individual requirements.

Couples Are Heading To Exotic Destinations For Romantic Weddings In 2012

Brides and grooms are seeking more exotic locations to tie the knot these days and with a UK wedding costing an average 20,000, its no wonder that couples are heading overseas for a more affordable and tropical alternative.

According to reports destination weddings in 2012 are on the increase and popular spots for romantic nuptials include the Caribbean, Mexico, Cyprus, and Greece.

Favourite Caribbean wedding destinations include Jamaica with its luxurious resorts and beautiful beaches and mountains; the Bahamas with its stunning pink sand beaches; and the island of Antigua that has a beach for every day of the year and breathtaking coral reefs.

Aside from the obvious reasons, more couples are choosing destination weddings in 2012 because of the financial benefits. The cost of UK weddings is rising but if couples go abroad to say I Do, they can save themselves a considerable amount of money thanks to all inclusive wedding packages and smaller guest lists.

Caribbean weddings, for example, cost an average 6,000 and brides and grooms are be able to enjoy tailor-made packages, beachfront accommodation, intimate ceremonies and even a free honeymoon.

Caribbean hotels and resorts offer experienced wedding coordinators and advisors who are on hand to arrange all of the details, from the marriage licence and officiant, to the photographer, music, wedding cake and flowers.

Mexico is also a popular destination, with the Mexican Caribbean being the most coveted spot for weddings and Cancun weddings being among the favourites due to the areas spectacular natural scenery. There are many luxury hotels and resorts in Cancun to choose from and after the wedding celebrations, couples can continue their own with a romantic honeymoon in Cancun where they can go scuba diving, visit the ancient archaeological sites, hike through lush rainforests, or relax on pristine beaches.

Many couples getting married abroad in 2012 are also choosing Mediterranean islands such as Cyprus and Greece. Both of these countries offer beautiful landscapes, an array of deluxe hotels and resorts, cultural delights, and romantic settings for ceremonies, such as cliff-side vows, romantic I dos in quaint chapels or nuptials at sunset on a secluded beach.

Recent surveys have revealed that 26 per cent of couples in the UK have chosen weddings abroad in the last five years compared to 20 per cent in the 1990s, and this figure is expected to increase over the next few years.

Ski Breaks To The Iconic Swiss Resort Of Zermatt

Spectacularly situated at the foot of the Matterhorn, the Swiss resort of Zermatt has the reputation of being a world-class resort with plenty to offer in the way of fantastic skiing, picturesque surroundings and a dynamic aprs-ski scene. Two members of the Flexiski UK team Pete Hillyard and Amy Askew recently travelled out to Zermatt to discover what makes this Swiss ski resort so iconic.

On arrival into Geneva they caught the train up to the town of Visp and from there took the connection to Zermatt. The train journey up to the resort is beautiful and in itself, offers a unique transfer option and fantastic start to a ski holiday in Zermatt. The train station within the resort is situated just off the pedestrianised high street ensuring an easy arrival into this chocolate-box, car-free village.

Amy and Pete were staying in the Hotel Mirabeau where they took advantage of the hotels luxurious spa facilities and woke up to sunny views of the Matterhorn from their balconies. As well as the Hotel Mirabeau, they visited several other hotels in Zermatt which will all be featured in the flexiski programme for the 2011/12 ski season. They found all of the hotel staff extremely welcoming and the standard of the hotels to be exceptionally high.

On their first day in Zermatt, they took a trip on Europes highest-altitude cable car up to the Matterhorn glacier which sits at 3883m. Unfortunately, they didnt have time to sample the summer skiing but from the top of the cable car they were able to gain an insight of what the skiing in Zermatt is like, with views across this incredible ski terrain.

After their trip up the glacier and various meetings with hotels, the tourist board and Ski Summit (a local ski school), Amy and Pete spent the evening strolling around the picture post-card village centre and sampling the reputable nightlife of Zermatt. As a year round resort, the streets are never empty and so even in the summer months the bars are lively, the restaurants are full and there is a general buzz around town.

On the first night of their trip they ate at the Pizza and Spaghetti Factory, an impressive restaurant spread over three levels within the contemporary Post Hotel (which incidentally seems to be the most popular night-spot of the resort with its 4 restaurants and 5 bars and clubs). On the second night they opted for a more traditional restaurant, the Caf du Pont which offers delicious Swiss cuisine at great value. They were pleased to discover that with regards to dining in Zermatt, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets, from gourmet Swiss cuisine to laid back pizzerias.

There was only one thing left to do before Pete and Amys departure! After Pascal at the tourist office advised that the Zermatt experience is only truly complete once you have danced on the barrel in the Broken Bar or taken a trip on the Gornergrat Railway, they sensibly opted for the latter and embarked on a breath-taking ascent up the mountain. This historic railway is not only an iconic part of Zermatts heritage, it also serves an important function during the winter months and acts as one of three main ski lifts transporting skiers from the resort centre up onto the mountain. The 30 minute journey takes you through idyllic forests, across viaducts and over beautiful mountain scenery, terminating at 3100m on a sunny platform with impressive views of the glacier and the Matterhorn.

Amy and Pete departed from the resort feeling like they had experienced all of whats on offer in this beautiful town and were reassured that Zermatt will be a perfect fit within the flexiski resort portfolio.
